INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, April 28 - 17 not 15 s Bodies Recovered 17 bodies were recovered today form the wreckage of a two engine new model Fokker Friendship plane which crash shortly after takeoff yesterday afternoon at the Malaybay airport in bukidnon on a demonstration flight for Philippine Air Lines. Firs reports had stated that only 15, including two stewardesses, were killed in the fiery crash. Most of them were ranking PAL regional officials and personnel Malaybalay, Bukidnon, April 28 - investigation today traced the cause of yesterday’s Fokker plane crash to “reckless piloting”. The disaster claimed the lives of 17 person, including some of the top official and aviation experts of Philippine Air Lines. Lt.Angel chies of the 4 PC Zone police intelligence brach of the CIS, said his initial findings showed that the Fokker plane pilot, Capt . Peter Brey, deputy chef pilot of the Royal Netherlands Aircraft factory had been careless. Witnesses, including the two survivors, said the win -engine jet - prop plane took off on only the left engine moments after landing at the local airport. The plane landed at the west end of the runway slowed down, taxied back , and hurriedly took off. This was supported by the testimony of Indonesia aviation expert Budiarto , 41 one of the two survivors and director of the Civil Aviation Academy of Indonesia . “ I told him not to do it “ Sanjoto said Budiarto is a test pilot of the Indonesian Air Force. Budiarto a lieutenant colonel . Has a wife and seven children, one of whom Mira is celebrating her 10th birth anniversary today. All the bodies were recovered form the tail section. Budiarto and Hooker crawled through a break in the cockpit. Budiarto said the two engines seemed all right when the plane landed here from Davao. The pilot, however ,allegedly stopped the left engine before taking off to test the plane’s takeoff performance . Investigators said the relatively narrow area showed that the plane was flying at “minor speed” it had failed to clear several small foothills as it tired following the canyon in an effort to gain altitude . Budiarto and Hooker were scheduled to be airlifted to Manila by PAL at 2 p.m.today. Budiarto could no be interviewed this morning as he reportedly developed complications. He suffered burns on 36 per cent of his body , doctors at the Bukidnon provincial hospital said. He was airlifted to Manila this Afternoon |
